My little terds

So I know that naming fish is for girls lol. But my wife kind of got me into it. Lol.

I call these guys my (Bass) Terds.

I got them on July.7 after seeing them 3 days earlier. At the time it was extremely hard to find any in my city. Every time an lfs would get them they would be gone in a few days. When I first saw them there were about 15-20, then 3 days later(1 of those days the store was closed) there were only 3 available when I called the store. I was a bit disappointed because I wanted 6 but asked them to hold them for me. By the time I drove across the city someone had already called and asked for 4. So I just barely got them.

They were labeled as ocelaris but still not sure if I ever trust lfs labels lol. Some have said possibly mono or farmy.

These are the most recent photos of the ocels, or the ones labeled as so. They are starting to colour up fairly decent but I am still a noob to photography. I’m considering taking lessons on it just so I can take photos of my fish lol. C.R.E.A.M

A few weeks later these guys came into town labelled as kelberi. They were seriously 1” when I first got them. I didn’t even get many pics right away because they didn’t have much for markings on them.

So because I got these guys so much smaller than the first batch I had to put them in a different grow out than my original grow out with the ocels. Tank space was quite limited at that time so I put a divider in my jewel breeder tank. They were so small the egg crate divider was ineffective against them. A pre-grow out before the actual grow out.

This was risky because it would create more bio load on an already smaller tank, then funny enough the jewels seemed to like the smaller space and decided that was when they would spawn. So I was doing 30% wc every 2-3 days since I was feeding small amounts of food 6-10 times a day. These guys are great feeders and not too fussy. The ocels are more of the opposite- hence their names. Lol

Sweet update those are some of the nicest terds I have ever seen . They have developed nicely colors already starting to pop! Keep the updates coming these guys are showing some potential. Very beautiful Matteus

So I had 3 of each but one time when I had the kels in the jewels tank divided, I filled the water up too high and the next day one was missing and my female jewel was very plump. The irony is that I was breeding the jewels to have live food for the bass.

A few months later when I tried to introduce the ocels into my 180, I found my Oscar chasing them down a bit more than I liked so I turned out the lights and hoped for the best. He was in with 9 blue botias and some were much smaller than the bass so I figured it should be ok. No dice, stupid move. One was missing and another one had chew marks and a solid laceration on each side of its body, which means the poor little bass terd was right inside his mouth at one point. I was so choked, ready to end the Oscar I decided I would take it to a friend that took one of my catfish already. I was so mad, it took me 3 months to get them on pellets. I have invested time and effort, money and now it’s gone because he wanted a snack luckily I found a way to separate them until I could move him. I did that tonight, so now the plan is to move the kels up to the big tank while the divider is still in so they can get to know each others scents again.

Thank you. I am trying to learn how to use the camera better so I can capture their colours better. The pics never seem to do it justice.
