My Oscars a Pig

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Its normal. They are slow eaters for the most part. I have some that will play with the pellets/tilapia before eating it. They'll sniff it, role it around inder there chin swim away, come back and eat it. Others will go nuts and eat right away.

How long have you had the endli ?
I've had both oscar and bichir for about 3 weeks. Just fed the bichir. He ends up getting a piece of fis, other oscar eats his other piece of fish and bichir ate a pellet after it being right in front of him for about a minute.

I might end up re-homing the oscar, and replace it with my red tiger mota which i have in a smaller tank, since he is only about 1.5 inches, but he is very feisty, might also get a fire mouth to fill the tank up. I love the oscar but he's just too much of a pain and he eats all of the other fishes food:(

You could be jumpin out the frying pan and into the fire...rtm's dont mess around.

What is the exact stock of the tank ?

oscar, bichir, GT, 4 silver dollars, 2 clown loaches. All of the fish are larger than the Rtm so i'd think since he grew up being the smallest he wouldn't be too aggressive when he grows up. the GT was picking on him. that's why he's in a different tank right now, because he's much smaller than everyone else

since i'm most likely goin to rehome the oscar, if the rtm isn't a good fit, what would've to replace the oscar? I need some color in the tank

Things change fast when cichlids hit a certain size. No way to tell who will snap if any.
I've nerver had rtm so wont comment as fact but read pleanty of threads saying they were aggressive.

Im the wrong person to ask this quesrion lol.

If it were me i would think what i want the center peice of my tank to be then build around it. Rtm will eventually provide you with all the color you need. If its cichlids then i say rehome the bichir if its bichirs then think about a set up that better suits them.

Im not saying you even have to rehome anyone wait and see if it aggression becomes a problem... i think it will but thats just my opinion and could be wrong.

Also watch out for the clown loaches if they are small enough to fit in the endlis mouth and it eats its it chances are both are gonna die. Iwould be extra cautious of this since your endli isnt eating enough as is anday get desperate enough to try. Was a thread in the polypterus section the other day and a 13ish inch endli died while trying to eat a CL.

Also see what others say about the subject im basing my comments on my experience others may have a different point of view.

Ive successfully kept pearsei (minus the feeding drama), aequidens metae, and heterospilus with bichirs... vieja argentea and zonatus were failures not surprisingly

That endli is cb. My cb grow allot slower than wc

Ok. On most days, The bichir will eat 1 or two pieces of fish at night, but he will not eat anything in the morning.

This video shows how long it takes for him to strike his food, and this was a fast for him, most of the time he takes longer. Also u can see the oscar being a pain in my arse Xd
