It has been in the back of my mind all night. I do think I am gonna get another can of epoxy for 1-2 more coats, then redo the filter as well and building the same type filter for my two other tanks just on a smaller scale, and in hood.

I think my problem is simply that one of the rollers I used was bad, and came apart while I was painting the tank giving it a rough finish. But better safe than sorry.

What I dont understand is that drylock can be used for a background over styro, but will not work with wood.

well wood flexes and expands, styro does not expand with humidity and i dont know how much it flexes once its in the tank.

Thanks, It has been a great project, Cant wait to be done, though I am afraid of the impending let down that it is finished and I am not working on it anymore :(
Food for thought with the impending let down in mind.

If you enjoy creating things with your hands, like most of us DIY'ers, draw up a set of plans for your ultimate tank. Then it will always be a dream and a positive objective to reach for. This is just an idea of sorts for you to think about, is all. Give it some thought.

If you choose to do something like this, be detailed in your drawings down to the last item you want to include in this ultimate tank you have in mind. Even if it's a light fixture screw. Then build it!

I am in the process of doing this with my own ultimate tank for my house. I'm thinking of now going 4'x4'x12' as opposed to 4'x4'x8' in size as originally planned. I have involved my wife with this task, asking her opinion on things of which, she may have a better idea or a different idea which will work just as good or even better (this can and has happened, guys . . . so don't laugh). I involve her in this process so she doesn't feel left out and it makes it much, much easier for me to do things I would like to see happen with the tank as well. BUT I MAKE SURE I DO NOT IGNORE HER INPUT - (A HUGE FACTOR YOU NON MARRIED TYPES SHOULD MAKE A DETAILED NOTE OF). It also makes driving down the road a bit smoother, if you get my drift.

This is especially true when it comes to stalking the tank. The wife wants to stock it as a decorative community fish tank. I want to stock our tank with two or three compatible colonies of MF in this tank. One colony (30 fish of one species) is a do-able thing. But knowing how to have two to three compatible colonies in the same tank is a bit more challenging and complicated I think. I may have to contact a friend who is a specialist on this sort of thing to make sure I'm not taking a bigger bite than what can be chewed. I'll keep you posted on this issue thru a PM if that's acceptable with you.

This bites, Epoxy is delayed, not getting delivered until monday, Getting the glass tomorrow, and maybe a 100g tank to replace the 55 that my stepson wants to move into his bedroom. Best part is he is paying for a little more than half of the 100 to get the 55, What a deal.

Testing the filter this weekend though, read about the failure of jrpsaros's drylok tank earlier today, so I want to do testing, silly to just toss it.

More next week,

things are looking up for you. Or so it seems. I like the deal you made with your step son. Sounds like a plausible bargain. You both gain on both accounts. Your next thread looks like a winner too. Good luck. Hope it all works out. Be looking fwd. to the new thread. I'll be looking for it!
