Not sure about gar, I don't even know what they look like:) I'm thinking about 2 catfish

Please describe the airstones or diffusers used in the lift- or did I miss it in the text?
Very interesting setup. Well thought through.

I'm not using airstones since they tend to clog over time. A diffuser wouldn't work with my manifold(that 3" pipe that goes below the blue drum to give added depth. All I'm using is a single 1/4 barb fitting, per lift tube. My injection point is at 59.5 inches. I went with that depth because that is what my airpump is rated at. Medo 80 air pump specs http://www.medo-water.com/la-80b.html

Maybe in a few years if I decided to tweak some things, I would ditch the two 1 1/2 returns and go with 2" returns or larger. My only restriction is the returns, if they were larger I could lower the lift tubes and increase flow. Although at the current flow rate it should be able to keep the dual 3" bottom drains clear.

Oh yeah the stone showed up, I think I ordered too much:) 7,540 pounds of Japanese stepping stone.

I'm aiming for next friday to have the koi in the new pond.

I found some photo's of my risers (air lift pipes) with the barbs installed.

the guys who grow Macrobrachia (prawns) on the south coast use air to move their water, and with the cost of current around here I'd be very interested in going this direction when the home-pond comes around- or even on the tank re-build.
A couple of Koralia-3 could keep the water moving for raw current.

With the low electrical draw do you have opportunity to go solar or wind?
Wind might not even need electrical exchange if you fit a screw-pump...

Huge amounts of pipework needing welding, bother Ben must be getting exited;)

The medo 80 is rated at 86watts, mine draws 90 watts with a killawatt meter. I changed the diameter of the exit pipes off the risers from 1.5" to 2" and now I'm flowing exactly 3,600 gph. I'm very satisfied with the flow for only 90 watts
