How many gph for my tank?It has some slow moving fish like 2 angels.

Hello; If you already have the filter, you may as well give it a try. I agree that some fish that are not strong swimmers, like angels, may not do well with a lot of current.
I will fail you at this point as I do not actually know the GPH rating of my current power filters.

I have had filters that were a bit too strong for a tank. Some fish, like angels, would try to avoid the current while others did not seem to mind so much. Now that I watch my tanks I realize that none of the fish do spend much time in the area immediately in front of the filter out flow.

I will try to determine the flow rate of some of my filters and get back to you. Perhaps others will have some input.

Depending on the filter you have, it may not actually be too high of a flow rate. The Aquaclear 70 is rated @ 300 gph , and although it's suggested for 70 gallon tanks...it has been successfully used on smaller setups. Flow rates tend to be over rated by manufacturers and measured under better than "normal" conditions anyway. Many HOB's also have some way to regulate flow as well, so you may not have to go with the max flow possible. Try it out...watch your fish...They will tell you if flow is too high by their behavior.

I didnt order a filter yet.Any body know how long it takes a swordtail to give birth, both of my females got pregies the first few days I got em, one of them was already preg at the pet store and is looking pretty big!
