Here I have attached my new Flowerhorn. Kindly say what breed is he. What is his breed maximum lifespan? Many of the guys said that we should not feed prawns, livers to them. They prefer only pellets food. If pellet food is better means What brand I have to do for his healthy and long live with his enhancing colours. Now i am giving ocean free XO humpy head, Ever Red and Starry with Okiko platinum food. Is this food is good for him or i have to change his feed brand. Kindly Guide me .20170528_103839.jpg

Welcome :)

The key is clean water and sparse feeding.
:)Sure bro. I am giving proper clean water with proper filteration in 2.5X2X2 ft tank with arowana in the other partition. Any ideas about the food pellets bro

That's an alright size set up to grow him out in but he will need something larger in the not too distant future. I've noticed mine thrive in warmer water (83-85f) as an additional note. Just keep the water clean and you should be alright. Flowerhorns are more susceptible to internal parasites than a lot of fish are that's why most will not recommend feeding live or uncooked foods. You can feed freeze dried krill and stuff like that as a treat. The pellets you have mentioned are all good for your fish. Should turn out very nice

Not really big enough for either, make sure to do 60% waterchange or more weekly

Thank you so much.

If you can, you should pick up a freshwater master test kit from API. Not sure if you can get one where you live but it will help you keep your parameters in check and it is much more accurate than strips. It costs around 20-30 bucks here but is well worth the money. You should aim to keep your ammonia and nitrite at 0 and your nitrates under 40ppm. With both fish that may be a problem.

It's good to do a 50-60% change once a week like hendre mentioned until you can get a bigger tank. I would consider possibly selling your arowana. They really need something like a 300+ gallon tank or a pond to be happy. Maybe there is a farm or garden store nearby, they have large plastic or metal stock tanks that would work as a pond if you want to keep the arowana. I think a 2.5x2x2 is around 60 or 70 gallons? :)

I think the food you are feeding him should be fine. Hikari and Omega One make really good cichlid food too if you can find it. You can also use vacuum sealed frozen bloodworms as a treat, he will go crazy over them but feed those sparingly because they are fattening. You should also try feeding him a few plain frozen peas every week. Like others mentioned they get prone to bloating. Peas will help clean him out. If he does seem to have a parasite there is a sticky on how to treat it in the health issues section of the forum.

Also, most cichlids like flowerhorns can easily live to be over 10 years old! You will have him for a long time. :D

Thank u so much for ur elaborate reply. :):):)Very happy that our flowerhorn baby can live upto 10 years.I am enquiring about hikari food too. Once i get it. Let me continue with that too. My actual tank size for our flowerhorn baby is 5X2X2 ft tank. We have plan to add the arowana with our oscar tank which is 5X2X2 ft tank. Now we are having Six oscars plan to reduce them to 4 and add our arowana with them. Since our arowana is small compared to the oscar, we splitted the flowerhorn tank into two and put our flowerhorn and arowana. Now we are testing the filteration of our oscar tank for giving high filteration while we add our arowana with oscar. I heard that many of the pellets foods having hormones which affects the long and healthy life of our fish.:(I scared about our healthy life of our fishes thats why i am specifically enquiring about the pellets food and its brand name. Very soon I posted the new threads in the arowana forum to know about him and his maintenance:). I want all our fish babies live their whole life span without any diseases and hurtings.20170522_070655.jpg
