Need guidance to keep my flowerhorn healthy with long life

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Can we put Flowerhorn with some other fishes too? If so what fishes we can add with him for avoid his boring loneliness:confused:
Not really no. They are very aggressive, so won't take most tankmates well

Thank u so much for ur elaborate reply. :):):)Very happy that our flowerhorn baby can live upto 10 years.I am enquiring about hikari food too. Once i get it. Let me continue with that too. My actual tank size for our flowerhorn baby is 5X2X2 ft tank. We have plan to add the arowana with our oscar tank which is 5X2X2 ft tank. Now we are having Six oscars plan to reduce them to 4 and add our arowana with them. Since our arowana is small compared to the oscar, we splitted the flowerhorn tank into two and put our flowerhorn and arowana. Now we are testing the filteration of our oscar tank for giving high filteration while we add our arowana with oscar. I heard that many of the pellets foods having hormones which affects the long and healthy life of our fish.:(I scared about our healthy life of our fishes thats why i am specifically enquiring about the pellets food and its brand name. Very soon I posted the new threads in the arowana forum to know about him and his maintenance:). I want all our fish babies live their whole life span without any diseases and hurtings.View attachment 1255991
Looks good but will need an upgrade for an arowana, they get massive. With so many oscars and an arowana twice weekly waterchanges may be required because oscars are susceptible to "hole in the head" disease and arowanas to lateral line erosion. Water must be kept clean otherwise those will be unavoidable sometimes

For tank mates it will depend on his aggression like hendre said. He may tolerate a female though in the future, if you decide to breed them (note, some are infertile). Some are crazy and will kill any other fish and some do tolerate tankmates, they all have their own little personalities. I would keep that divider handy if you do decide on something with him. You would probably have to introduce tankmates soon since he is little. Usually that's how it works for other cichlids.

For your oscar tank I would for sure rehome the others or keep just 2 that seem to have paired up. I'm guessing you bought them as a group when little to see if you had males and females? 6 is always a good start. Those size though are probably pushing your filtration, they look pretty big haha. Looks like you have a big pond pump hooked up to something. Is there a sump underneath? That would be my preferred filtration or some very large canisters like the fluval fx6. Just picked one of those up, working good so far but expensive. They make smaller ones that are less expensive too. Look for consistent good reviews and you can't go wrong.

For the food, just read the ingredient list. If it's shorter, it's probably better. The first things should be whole fish and shrimp or something similar with less filler ingredients like corn. Look for added vitamins too. Try to avoid too many preservatives. But most brand name pellets will be just fine for him.

BTW. I like that wood trim on the tank. Looks pretty neat.

Thank u sister. Is it so that if the flowerhorn in the community tank will not show their original coloration and kok size? In the oscar tank we have 3x1.5x2 feet sump filter with DIY activated carbon, bioballs, peppels and filter socks and one top filter. We have wavemaker to circulate the water to move the residue to the water pump. As u said the filtration is very tough for us nowadays there is a white sediments in the tank with in the week. I dont know what is that? Why it happens? How do we avoid that? In usual we keep total water change of oscar tank for change the settings of the tank in every two weeks once. But nowadays the tank glass becomes white soon and the colour is also tanned. Moreover i dont know to identify the male and female in oscar to rehome the others. If we pair the oscar means whether it will attack our arowana while we introduce him. I scared about the introduction of arowana with oscar fish too

hey man first of all that is a damn nice flowerhorn
its breed will most probably be in super platinum magma / pure pearl cross faders
so when it will grow its pearls will be bright than the whole body and the KOK size will max out in about 1.6 years with proper feeding

"you can check my website 'aquatank boys' on google and can get 25 % off on every purchase"

'feeding guide'
try to feed him variety of food pellets like
1)hikari bio gold (not available in all shops in india')
2) optimal cichlids pellets
3)Okiko platinum pellets
4)dried shripms (most probably available in dried fish section in fish market in 'india')
5)blood worms

'Lifespan'
he will easily make it till 10-12 years on proper feeding and good water quality and dont worry about the KH, PH, nitrates.
Just 2 waterchanges per week and a 'good submerge filter and a overtop filter' will make it christmas for the fish every day

Alright. I would skip the carbon as it has been linked to HITH disease in Oscars, keep it for when there's medication you need to remove. waterchanges also remove the stuff that carbon does. Feeding sparingly will help lower the amount of sediment. also keep an eye out for probiotic mixes often sold for koi ponds, it helps consume the debris in the tank

that wood is leaching tannins and making the water yellow, it will stop eventually

Thanks bro. i am feeding only three times a day. the food has been consumed within 5 to 10 minutes. The balanced food is removed immediately. Now i have started Ocean Free SA-G1 for the growth and colouration of oscar fish to select the best oscar fish. Initially i have started with hikari biogold, staple and cichlid food. Later transfered to the dried shrimps. Now in Ocean Free to find the best fish to keep in our home. All the others will rehome bro. Whetther i am in right path bro

hey man dont even try to keep oscars and flowerhorns together as the bigger oscars will bully the small flower horn and "i mean heavy bulling to the little flowerhorn"
there could be even blood bath as i have done the same mistake
check out my youtube channel and you will know how it is bad to keep them in same tank

I feed 3 times a week

you shouldn't feed as much, what they can eat in a minute or 2 is usually enough with cichlids. especially with such frequent feeding and big fish
