Hello, I recently purchased a 5.5 inch Texas cichlid from the lfs, at first i thought cause of the size it was forsure a male, but I'm staying to have my doubts considering the analysis and dorsal fins are pretty rounded , wanted to see if anyone could help?

The shape of the profile, and lack of dark blotch in the dorsal indicate the larger one in your photos is a male, the smaller one (in the 2nd pic) with the more torpedo shaped profile and darker blotches looks female to me.
here is a male carpintus, with the steep and slightly interrupted forehead profile similar to yours

female, note the uninterrupted profile

I think fin shape is a good indicator.

My h. Deppii are very closely related, and sexing is very similar. I really wasn't sure of the sex of these two. They both had sloping foreheads and black blotches. As they got older I noticed fin differences. Now, I see definite male and female. So IMO it could be a dominant female. But venting will always be the best way to be sure.

This is a good sun-lit shot of my cyano. I am also still not sure of gender, but leaning towards male.

I've read that females tend to have a dark streak or spot on dorsal fin whereas males lack this spot, but that's what the internet told me so.....

I have an electric blue Texas I'm not even sure hundred percent sure that's correct . Honestly in my opinion it seems like it's very hard to tell if they're male or female when they're juveniles . I did hear the same thing as you in regards to the regular Texas Cichlid . From my research and there isn't much information about the electric blue Texas Cichlid it's probably a female but it could be a male to just gonna have to wait and see I rather have all malls in my tank not looking to breed too much commotion.I've heard on multiple sites females have that.on the dorsal fin so I think you probably have a mame. where are you located there's really very few local fish stores in Jacksonville Florida I have to drive to Daytona or Saint Augustine to get older juveniles I have the regular ridiculous chainstores by me like there must be 15 of them. PetSmar if you remember or maybe you don't know about two years ago they actually used to get decent size juveniles and nothing like 6 inches but they used to get like 4 inch fish sometimes 5 inch.
