needle nose gar go with this setup?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont think needlefish do well at all together. I've heard repeatedly that they will kill each other pretty much every time. I have one that I keep with my Bichirs and while he's brutal as can be when a minnow hits the water, anything his size or larger and he's a delicate flower.

Wrong section for this fish, they aren't gar.

So what section should he put it in??? pleco's?

But ya get ride of the FH and you will be fine. I have had 8 in a 125 for years and never had a problem with them. They were with 4 12 inch oscars at the time to. Get little fish but if you can buy more than 1 they like to be in little schools, well at least mine did.

I stand corrected

the only time that they might kill each other is when feeding. If one is way smaller than the rest one of the big ones might try to eat it. The bad thing with that is that even if the small one is too big to swallow the big one waits till its dead to try and eat it just to find out that it can not swallow it. So if you do buy a few get them all the same size or close if possible

needlefish plus another larger carnivorious fish = death of one of them.

little confised by your post, just looking for a little conformation... my cichilids are omnivorous and smaller than the needlefish, and will always be smaller as they needlefish tops out at about 11-12" (so i'm told) and the cichlids will top out at only 5-6". i cant see my cichlids killing something that much larger than them and i cant see my (full grown) cichlids fitting in the needlefish's throat. are needlefish as passive as i have read?

I would say be weary of the FH. they do seem to become more and more aggressive as they mature. and I have found that gar when young are quite timid eaters. Thats just my experience though.
