I must got 2 new albino polypterus palmas, they're almost 3'', from what I hear the best thing to help them grow is heat at 78 or so and beefheart and blood worms, i tried feeding them chopped up silversides but no dice, didn't eat any. they're in a 10 gallon with a few guppies i'm hoping will slowly dissappear.... any other suggestions?

congrats on the albinos. they are most likely senegal albinos though. more common than palmas. come to think of it, i have never seen an albino palmas. post some pics for definite ID.

you can probably get away with raising the temp a couple more degrees. low 80's will get the metabolism up a little. all your food is good. if they dont like the silversides you can try chopping up some raw shrimp.

keep up the good work, post some pics, and enjoy the little monsters :)

congrats on the pickup :)
albino senegals are sometimes sold as 'albino palmas' by lfs and supplier, so i can see why your lfs insisted thats what they are. e.g. fish2u.com sells them as 'albino palmas'. also selling regular senegalus as palmas isn't unheard of either at lfs.

no idea why but i like the fat polypterus better, like senegals bichirs, i have the ornatipinnis, sleek and nicely marked but nothing has more character than a fat seal lookin bichir
if you like fat polypterus, you have to get a palmas polli, and the female can get especially fat.

Agreed! Excellent growth rate on a P. Polli too... I can't help but call mine "Fata**" when I see him. Congrats on the new bichirs :)

Albino Senegals are great! I had one, but i gave it to my buddy to take care of. He's been dying for one, so I gave him mine to make room for an Ornate.
