I recently purchased several male Amphilophus including 'Rio Naranjo' Trimacs and Labiatae with the intention of keeping a male 'wet pet.' I re-homed the others to a local friend that I had met on this site. Although this particular fish did not win the phenotypical race (The Trimacs and other male Labiatae looked better), he won in the behavior/interaction department. This guy came up to greet me right out of the bag, and ate pellets within 5 minutes of acclimation. He was the smallest; yet, he was the most dominant. With this in mind, he also appeared more tolerant of non-cichlid tankmates (more to be revealed lol). I do not know why I like Amphs so much; however, my fishkeeping neurosis always leads me straight back to them. There are some Pink Tail Chalceus with him as well as a L200 & a L240. I was thinking about substituting some SD in there, but I have not made up my mind yet. Anyways, here is a vid of the little guy. He appears to be approximately ~ 7 inches.

Nice score amigo. It will be interesting to see how much this fish morphs in color as it matures.

Not the fattest lips, but nice finnage
I notice labiatus seems to get the longest fin extensions of the genus, almost angelic
Not sure where this guy's from, but

Admittedly, without the nuchal hump and streamers, they just kinda look like chinese restaurant tilapia to me.

That is a very nice Labiatus from Edgar Ramos of Miami Cichlids and More .... that's a good observation I have also noticed that the pure Labiatus will often have very long dorsal and ventral fins.....
