New indoor turtle pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I used a 50gal liner from lowes http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=56567-1569-LP5718&lpage=none

I used a 4x6 sheet of mdf and traced the outline of the pond, cut out with a jig saw.

The frame is made of 2x4 16" tall. I then drilled 2 1/2" holes in the side of the liner about an inch from the top for the filter lines.

I covered the top and sides by stapling fabric to them and then screwed it all together.

The turtle is just a bit bigger than a quarter, its pretty cool when they are that small.

Thats fantastic that you totally did this yourself...i think it is perfect set up for him... did you find your baby after it hatched also... want to keep track of yours and compare to mine.. what do you feed now...

The neighbors daughter found him in the driveway. Not sure when it hatched. I am all smiles, always wanted a turtle!

that is awesome..i feel the same way... they are really special for some reason ..i am so attached to them... mine loves frozen blood worms and frozen baby brine krill.. they won't eat pellets yet but i always throw one in for them,, they have put it in their mouth but always spit it out... i take my guys out side with me when i am gardening and occasionally i find a tiny bug or worm for them... good luck with yours... keep posting pics so i can see him..and i will too

real cool. looks quite familiar. mine was just a hatchling and ate pellets right away.

Looks like a fine habitat but here´s a few tips. If I were you I would keep that small turt in a smaller aquaria, because in such a big habitat small turts tend to be very shy, they fell unsecure and can be hard to feed(food disperses over a very large area). Wait untill she is a few inches bigger and youll be safe. Also make shure those rocks are somehow glued between them and completley secure. Turts are artists in digging behind rocks and suff and they can get stuck and drown or be crushed:eek:

LOVE THE POND!

also love to see more MFKers from NH :)
( i am located in franklin )

Very nice Turtle pond! They must be happy. :) How about Anubius...pretty easy and hardy plant.

awesome setup, simple yet effective. I like that it goes with your room (the fabric) I think all it would need if it where for me, would be a nice metal halide suspended over it, and some nice live plants.
