great lighting set up, thanks for sharring. Im thinking of making my own this will be a great refference. also liked the pics of the fish...youve got some good shots (must be the lighting )

How long do your snacks (crays) last in there? you ever have one survive for quite a bit?

BTW: The mylar tape is a brilliant idea. I hope none of those DIY guys out there passed that idea by.

I was at my fav. electronics store and they had about 20 boxes of it, and it was 1 role for $2 and i grabbed 2 roles, i only used half on this project...

I dont even know why i bought it in the first place..., i think i bought it for electronic heat sheilding porposes...

thank you, the reason for the upgrade was photogenics, I got a new cannon digital reble from a friend for pennies, and i always had to use the flash(since this tank is in my media room/basement) and the basement has poor lighting in general. and a flash makes the fish look un natural and posed, where as a quick shutter speed without a flash look alot better.

the longest crawfish that i ever had is???, hmm, the two that are in there now. they are going on three weeks. shortest amount was the first time i put them in, my mbua male(2y.old 5" long in this pic, RIP) got one and devoured it ing 30 secconds, here is a pic of the moment before.


they are $1 each from my fish store and whenever they get them i always get 4. the last time i was picking them out a little girl said to me, be carefull they can pinch the fish. To which i replied, IF!, they get a chance they deserve it concidering what the fish will do to them, she looked at me funny and ran to her mommy. .

But the best snack for them is ghost shrimp!!, i get 40-80 at a time and dump them all in, i would need a High speed camera to catch the mayham. they love thair ghost shrimp!!!. BTW the running temp of the ballists is about 130*F

BTW when you look at the lights your eyes go all funny....

I dont look at it any more in fear of having a stroke and walking towards the light...

working on it, but if i do it it will actuly replicate the moon phases in terms of bightness and amount on..

I have craploads of LED's(blue, red, white, UV, IR...) laying around and 120 to 12V/5V converters. bit what fun would that be?

another great pic...cant beleive the crayfish are out in the open like that. the last time I fed two; one didnt even get to see the gravel!!!!! It was awsome...half way down...CHOMP!
but the other was around for months and even molted and all. It did however stick to a cave and not come out much.

if only i lived by you man..... i would sell you 4 crawdads for a dollar....lol...


ive got a whole crop of them.......it is amazing....right now ie prolly got 25 in a 30 gallon rubbermaid with filters.......... and that is after selling prolly fifty of them

and guess what..they are all FREEEEEto me..... and to be on the safe side...... rip the pinchers off before you put them in the tank..... crwadads are able to regenerate limbs.. crazy lil boogers
