Very Nice.

What happened to patiently watching the little ones grow for the full experience:D:D:D

I am predicting she won't be the only "large addition" before the summer is over. They are just too addicting.

Started the cover for the filters today, not much progress because I ran out of brackets, I thought I had enough:

I found some shed felt at my folks that I seem to remember was mine, so I brought it home:naughty: Anyway, I picked up 2 sheets of ply for the cover, one whole sheet would have been great but I can't transport it and it would have been too heavy to lift, the only issue is that I've only enough felt for one part, so that's the part I've done.

Shed felt attached to batons underneath the ply:

Test fitting, need some more baton to attach the hinges:irked:

All day the wind has been blowing insects off the tree from behind the house and the smaller fish have been feasting all day:

I know this looks a little strange, the long term plan is to build a small wall in front and install trellis to hide it. For now waterproofing the electrics and pump is the priority.

Thanks for reading

Around 15-18 years ago I was still living with my folks, as I think I've mentioned before they have a pond. It's 9 foot by 9 foot and about 2 foot deep, 5 years after it was build we added a six foot stream to the design, about a foot deep. About a year before the stream was added I bought a small orange and black koi(so I must have been working hence the guess on the dates) for £3.50, and I named it Kelvin. My dad has alway subscribed to the black box filter approach so the fish are rarely seen apart from when feeding, anyway when the stream was constructed the pond was drained and the fish were moved into the liner that was in the stream, I got back from work one night and found one or two dead fish in the stream and Kelvin that had jumped out and was flapping in the drained pond. I put him back in the stream and aerated the water to prevent further fish deaths.

So the stream was finished and the pond returned to it's new size and Kelvin went back in. A few years later I got married and moved out, that was about 10 years ago. Since then my dad has upgraded the black box filter with the newer smaller pressure filter, so obviously every visit since the water has been the same but you can see the odd fish every now and again. Every six months or so he loses fish and buys others off Ebay etc.

Anyway to the point, they just got back from their winter break. Obviously the filter system was not connected so my dad switched it on and got something to eat, came back to a half emtpy pond. So today we went around to see them and my dad said I could have the larger koi in the pond but didn't know how many were left in there but he thought there were a couple.

As the pond was low he got the net and had a sweep and pulled out a 2lb golden orfe and a small koi(bought from ebay last year). Second sweep a large deep orange koi and another small koi(guess when from;))

Third sweep, the same orfe.

Fouth sweep, the same orange koi.

At this point I had to ask what he was looking for, the large red koi apparently, so I asked when was the last time he'd seen it, apparently 9 months ago. So after another twenty minutes of netting mud, leaves and nothing much else nothing guess what came out, a fish called Kelvin:)

I wasn't really keen on taking his fish even though I can home them better until Kelvin came out, as I know the journey the fish has been on I think it's only best he lives out his retirement in my pool:) I'm going to give him the 2 asagi I bought the other month as a thank you.
