Update. Fish are still lying on the bottom. 1 of my dither fish is dead. An Australian rainbowfish. I had 4 in total. I am doing a 50% water change and added an airstone to see if this helps at all. Not looking good at this point. Might have to pull out the new sump tonight if things don't improve.

Sorry to hear. Aeration is a good idea and I'd test the water again even though you've probably done that. Something is defianately a miss, obviously. Keep us posted
Thanks. Just tested it again. Nitrites, nitrates, ammonia all at 0.

Can you post a pic of the setup? There are a lot more things than ammonia, nitrate and nitrite that cause problems.

We can safely assume that something in the sump is the problem, so we should probably take a look at it.

I thought the safe GE silicone to use was the GE silicone 1 not 2?
Not 100% on that but what I read many times.

OK quick update. I have madly been unhooking the sump and doing water changes. I Think my fish are all going to die anyways because they might be too far gone. To answer some questions I did use Ge silicone II window and door but it has NO mold resistant crap in it! I have read on other threads that people use it with no problems. I also know silicone I is used by many people. I tried to do my homework before starting this project and I am extremely frustrated right now!! Thanks for everyones help and suggestions. I will try to post a picture but the design is not the problem. It is a standard sump design I have used many times with good success. At this point the only new thing I used this time over other times is the type of silicone so reluctantly I have to agree that this is most likely the problem. Thanks again to all who have posted on this thread.
I am now going to jump off a bridge! If I survive I will try to post some pictures.

Well my Synspilums died. Also the rest of my Rainbowfish. The Cubans are hanging on barely as well as the Salvini. Did massive water change and removed new sump. Will continue water changes tomorrow and run only my cannister for now. I guess even after 30 years of keeping fish you can still learn a few things. Have attached a picture of the silicone used and the sump. Tomorrow I start over and will use GE Silicone I clear. I have used all kinds of silicones over the years and never had this happen. Still can't believe this was the problem but can see nothing else. I would love to hear from people who say they have used this with no problems. I need sleep so will continue this tomorrow.
