Nice Merlion Dreamfish "Harmony Blue Jade" cross back - Vietnam

That is an awful lot of small dats in with that aro with no hiding place. Although I like dats as tankmates for aros, aren't they bit bit too small? I am sure a hungry dat would pick them off.

I agree with you and said the same thing to Tam (owner of the fish). He assured me that his aros don't eat the dats. I asked him what he feeds his fish and he told me live barbs. Live barbs (of various kinds) are the default feeder fish in South Vietnam, where they are easy and cheap to raise. I'll ask Tam for a feeding video in future. Tam operates a kind of home-based business, so all of the dats are actually for sale. Tucked in there somewhere are 4 CT (Cambodian Tigers). He told me that true ST are around too, but not for sale.

Here is another video to share. This Merlion Ultimate Chilli Red also belongs to Tam.

Cool! I admit my first thought when I saw those pics was amazement that Dats were so cheap over there that they could be used as feeders. :)

Question: What is that large fish in the tank on the right, in the upper right quadrant?

It's a short body snakehead! :) Cool, eh? And the pair of aros in the tank (Merlion Premium Gold XB on left top, Merlion Pure XB on bottom left) are a confirmed pair that have laid eggs before. From what I saw, and from what Tam told me, this is a very harmonious and stable tank. There were more than a few aspects of Tam's tanks that I found mystifying; most of his tanks for his big aros have no lids! Yes, you read that right. Between having bite size datnoids, a snakehead with aros, and no lids, it looks like a disaster in the making. And yet Tam is a master aro keeper and successful reseller, so he knows what he is doing.

Looks to be a shortbody albino Channa argus
Not barbs. Not loaches.

They have got whiskers, some some local catfish fry.
Should be weather/dojo loaches. Quite common choice of feeders amongst the Asian countries.

I've started making dedicated "gallery pages" of the various Merlion Dreamfish I import at www.dragonfish.ca. Here is a link to the Merlion Ultimate Ocean Blue, the "flagship" fish of the Merlion Dreamfish farm: https://arowanaclub.ca/forums/threads/merlion-royal-ultimate-ocean-blue.7144/#post-51086

The Merlion OB retails at $5,000 Canadian, double the price of the Ultimate Blue Jade. I'll leave it up to hobbyists to decide the value.
Reminder that Asian arowana are illegal to own in the USA.
