A living crystal chandelier. You're a poet, Oddball.
The eggs were about 1/8'' or 3 mm in diameter. I was surprised, too. My wife compared them with tapioca bubble tea when they were still embedded in the foam structure. Well, not quite as big, but similar appearance.
As far as zooming goes, this is the best my point-and-shoot camera allows...
Thanks for the kind words and your interest, guys. I really appreciate it.
I reached out to Bernd and told him that I was able to translate his findings and his report from the single surprise spawning in his tank in 2009 into a first deliberate breeding. He was thrilled. Heck, I'm pretty excited myself. Who knows if I can reproduce this again in the future, but it's really cool to watch. Truly, full credit goes to Bernd.
The male guards the nest. When I approach the tank, he faces me and follows me. When fry sank down immediately after hatching. he picked them up and spat them back into the nest.
The female is just watching, but is tolerated around the nest.
Both refuse food.
May I add that these fish have been exclusively feed with Hikari sinking carnivore pellets.
Stay tuned.
