Every thread that me and John partake in always veers off somewhere, lol.
I'm not sure that's a fair assessment. I prefer to think that these threads have a natural evolution that takes them in diverse directions, and we merely go along for the ride...

Anyways, I love deer as much as the next guy, and more than most. I love watching them...I love deer hunting...I love having a freezer full of venison...I love collecting antlers, both from my hunting trophies and also from shed hunting...I admire their ability to survive in close proximity to human activity...and I especially admire the sly cunning displayed by mature bucks (i.e. the targets of most hunters) in eluding detection. I just plain like deer.
But there's no denying that, on an ongoing basis, they are the most destructive wildlife with which I share my land. They trample and destroy birdfeeders...they have punctured the liner in my backyard pond with their sharp hooves...they destroy a huge percentage of the trees and other plants I try growing in my yard...and I swear that they go out of their way to poop on the lawn, driving my dog to distraction. I go through hundreds of pounds of deer feed and corn each winter in an effort to help them out, and the feeders I use for that purpose are way out back in the woods, requiring me to drag heavy bags of feed out there throughout the winter...so the least they could do is avoid the small section of lawn around my house...right? RIGHT????
