This is probably the source of the name - Aquarium Glaser: Panaque L090a Ojo Chico

I wasn't aware of the article beforehand, but this is what I concluded (so I've learnt my something for the day).

Before they were described, Panaque bathyphilus (previously L090) and Panaque schaeferi (previously L203 and LDA065) were often confused and shared similar L numbers (L090c springs to mind). They are fairly easily distinguished from each other by the size of eye. So as the article describes, 'Ojo Chico' would have been used to differentiate between the two, and it just persists in the hobby, as do many common names.

I bought my Panaque bathyphilus as an 'Ojo Chico' and was lead to believe it was due to the orange colour in the caudal tail and filaments. But since then I've seen the colour variability in this species, especially since the holotype used to described the species is completely devoid of pigment.

My old one:

I think that as a general rule, larger fish are more hardy than smaller ones. I don't know of any reason why they would be considered more sensitive than the usually robust Panaque.

Didn't you order from john last time? If so im surprised you had issues, he qt's the hell out of fish and usually has them fat and happy before shipping.

Yeah I have had like four of them. And for some reason I could not keep the smaller ones alive. But I have about 5 other different types of panaques. That's why I want to get the larger one.
