Working on an open tank, I will have a "Driftwood Island" so to say, and I am looking for an attractive plant/flower that can grow out the top of the aquarium.
It will have it's own grow light. However, of course there is no substrate so it will need hanging roots that can draw directly from the water column.

Nothing that gets bigger than 2 or 3', flowering would be great, roots that dangle down in the water would also be cool. It doesn't have to be a normal aquarium plant.

I am pitching this concept to my wife, and need to justify the massive amount of cash this project will end up costing me:FIREdevil

Two or three feet? You are talking a pond style plant at that point. How big is your tank?

Water lily comes to mind as the obvious choice.

How would you design the tank to see the flower? Would need to be a low stand / pond style or else you'd only see if when standing on a stepstool overlooking the tank.
