I would like to know if there is anyone that has any successful experience with Oreochromis tanganicae as I unsuccessfully found out that they do not go in well with other large African cichlids.
Is a large species only tank the way to go?
I recently got rid of my nice looking male and sold it to my favorite fish store. They asked me what it was and I told them. They also asked me how aggressive it was and I told them that they seem to be able to find away to get to most fish and eventually kill them as their efforts may be somewhat laid back but they never actually stop which tends to get to most fish.
Well, being retarded they put this fish in there freshwater show tank with everything under the sun in it. At first they fit in fine and may even get picked on as a Fossorochromis rostratus showed the Oreochromis tanganicae a thing or two when introduced to the tank but then after 2 days of being settled in the Oreochromis tanganicae started to run the tank and dominated all fish and of course tried to kill the largest fish first so the Fish Store had to put him down because of the unavailable tank space, or so I was told. I was shocked that they dispossed of him as I am sure they could find a home for him but he had caused so much financial damage that the Fish Store felt like they did not want to pass on a fish like this to a customer.
If anyone has pics of theirs I would love to see them as I really am interested in keeping them but I guess I will have to wait until I can committ a large tank to a group of them.
