Hi everyone

I have kept an Oscar in the past, I had one in a 75 gallon but had to get rid of it when I moved. It was one of my favourite fish.
I now have a 120 gallon, that homes a blood parrot, 3 green severums and 2 rainbow cichlids. The rainbows are quite skittish around the other fish, and I may have to rehome them, there is some occasional bullying.

Would an Oscar make an okay tank mate with the severums and blood parrot?

It is a 5 foot 120g with an FX4 filter

Thank you!

I have a similar setup with those same fish. A 120 with a parrot, 3 severums and two rainbows is pretty full bioload.

Figure max sizes as a possibility
Parrot 8" - 10"
Severums up to 10"
Rainbows up to 5"
Oscars up to 14-18"

Even if you had a smaller adult O (say 10") that bioload would push you to the wall. And oscars don't like being crowded. There would be squabbling over space and territory.

To give you an idea , my 225 has an oscar, parrot, severum, two rainbows and other fish. They all get along reasonably well but there is still chasing. The Oscar has carved out over 4ft of the 6ft tank for himself. As long as he gets that, he can live with other tankmates. The only reason it works is the size of the tank.

I would go with the 2 severums and 1 rainbow in say a 90.
An Oscar might work in the 120 with the extra severum, parrot and 1 rainbow. 125 would be better for territory.

Agree the tank is a bit tight to add an oscar. The three sevs and parrot will just about fill the tank, but you could replace the rainbows with some other less skittish fish of similar size.
