In my opinion you could keep the oscar, 5-6 silver dollars and a smaller catfish than the syno for a bit of clean up. This would be the max stock though. If you sold the oscar and silver dollars you could have a small group of geophagus in that tank with the poly and syno or some medium sized cichlids. You have many options If you sold the oscar and sd’s

I managed to rehome one of the Oscars.
Now I can’t decide between keeping the other O or keeping the SDs.

It’s been a little less than a month now and the SD have almost doubled in size. I really can’t believe the growth rate.
I have attached a video and some pics.

I love the SDs because of the activity and schooling behavior. As well the way they eat and beg for food is second to none.
The O has now kind of lost his appetite and only eats everyone few days, and only a few pellets before he is full. Not as enthusiastic as he was when he was smaller. He is now About 9inches.

As your opinion, whom would you rather keep?
keep the O (they do have such character) with my syno and polys.

If I keep the 9 SDs, will the tank be considered at its max or overstocked?

Another option would be to rehome the Oscar and the SDs, and find similar fish that are suitable to my size tank to live with the syno and polys.
Maybe salvini or Severum? Schooling fish?

You just stated you love SDs and it seems like the oscar is a distant 2nd to them. Rehome the oscar and increase your SD school to like 15. Be sure when you increase the school it is a significant amount, no less than 4 if the SDs are smaller than the current SD residents. There are folks in the characin section of this board who love fish like SDs.

As the universe would have it, an old Acquaintance called me today and asked if I knew of anyone who had a decent schooling fish for his new tank. He happened to be looking for silver dollars or something similar. He will be collecting them this weekend.

I wont rush into anything. Maybe one other medium sized cichlid tank mate (jewel, salvini, severum), or as Bertie07 suggested potentially a group of geophagus if I rehome the Oscar. That Meets what I am looking for in terms of cichlid type personality, With some shoaling behavior.
Still doing my research.

Hi, Your tank is about 100 US gallons. You will be overstocked when the fish are fully grown, the fish will be a bit cramped and the water will get dirty too quickly. What you keep depends on what your priority is. I personally think a 5'x18" tank like yours is okay for silver dollars. 9 is just a bit much however. You also have a large senegal bichir and featherfin catfish, I see. Some possible stocking options would be as follows:

Option one: Two Oscars (re-home all other fish)

Option two: One Oscar, 5-6 silver dollars (re-home one Oscar, bichir, and catfish)

Option two: One Oscar, Senegal bichir, featherfin catfish (re-home one Oscar, Silver dollars)
I like option two TBH.

I have 4 oscars two king king blood parrots and a green terror with a group of clown loaches. In a 125 my water quality is great and do water change every other week some times once a month. All the talk about over stocking and everything is a matter of opinion. Over filter you tank keep up with water changes you'll be fine
