Good morning All

i currently have a set up with 3 mayaheros beani, 3 red terrors and a black belt

1 of the beani and 2 of the terrors will soon be moving on

I have aleays been worried about keeping Oscars with oyuter cichlids but on researcing it seems it can be done.

I really love the look of the lemon oscar and was wondering if anyone had any experiance with keeping oscars with other american cichlids

I would only be introducing the 1 Oscar

Oscars and tank mates are so hit and miss. But if you want one of those Lemon Oscars, they say you can not feed it anything with carotene or astaxanthin as that will make them lose there lemon color

Since beanii are a lone cichlid in their high pH, hard water habitat of northern Mexico, they usually don't play well with other cichlids as tank mates,
Especially with a timid designer cichlid endemic (in its natural form) to the east of the Andes S American, from soft, and neutral parameters like an oscar, it will probably be unable to withstand the innate aggression of a beanii.
And because M festae also more of a loner (being one of the only cichlids in its habitat, the more alkaline waters west of the Andes)
it will be an interesting experiment the which is the last cichlid standing .
I have kept all 3, but would never keep them toetherin the same tank, unless divided with strong barriers

The beani and festae are doing ok tiger at the moment although the beani are trying to breed and the terrors are leaving them well alone.

Maybe I’m better off not upsetting the apple cart by adding an Oscar.

Few photos so you can see them ( put a face to the name )

I do feel the oscar would look out of place with these other two cichlids and they are such puppies i like having them as the biggest and most dominant in their tank
