Our 270g Google Tank Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The dimensions of the tank is 72"l x 36"w x 24"h. I could not go any bigger because of where it's installed. There are two doors on each side which prevent me from making it wider or deeper. I should have went 6" taller though. Didn't think that the tank and canopy would take up some viewing space. Height of the stand is 36" because I wanted it tall. I didn't want to bend over just to look at the fish. Tank is actually at 38" because of 1" plywood (it's actually 2 half inch plys) and 1" for the foam.

Another thing we did was to take out the two ball valves after the return tee. We installed a gate valve before the tee instead. This made it much easier to adjust the flow.

Does anyone know if I can change out the sump pump power cord to something longer? I don't really want to use an extension cord.

Sure you can, just go to a hardware store and get a longer "pigtail" and wire it up. Pretty simple.

awesome build so far. if you want to see something thrown together check out my build. this is amazing compared to mine. (and i thought i did my HW lol)

Here's some pics of the water change piping.

Painted those brackets. Found sample paint for a couple bucks.

Cool thing I found was clear PVC primer. Now I didn't have to cover up the purple stuff.

Inside the Media Center closet.

This was pretty scary but so far no leaks. It's not under pressure and will only be used once a week so I'm pretty confident now that I should have no problems.

Sorry, had to show off our Media Center closet that I just did.

Outside the house and storing the water to water the plants. I think I will lower the tube so it doesn't collect water.

Holy cow,if that's winging it you can come and wing it on my set up anytime, and I'm abit of a perfectionist lol

I think this will work for the canopy. Do I still use screws or nails for the frame since the wood is skinny?

I would use screws, but pre-drill so your boards don't split.

I have to say great build. A few things come to mind though.

Just makes me a little nervous seeing water and electronics so close. I guess with the water changing pipe you don't have much choice in where to run it. But your back up power supply in the same enclosure as your sump is going to have problems. Even though you have taken precautions there will be humidity and condensation which won't mix with the APC. I think your best bet is to somehow get that back up relocated somewhere else. Just my $0.02. :)

Very nice build. How about a few pics of your fish.
