Hi picked up these at a fish shop yesterday, wanted some for ages, always thought they were plain looking cichlids, but they look great, they have a sort of marine fish shape to them, very friendly and lively little things

I know a couple of people who keep them here int he U.S. one of them breeds them and the other imports.
I have a group of Paretroplus Dambabe and i ended up with one Paretroplus Maculatus. These are awesome fish. They might look plain while young, but they become more beautiful as they age. Btw. Maculatus are relatively more peaceful than Dambabes. Good Luck with your fish!
Lookyloo, where ar eyou located?

You are sooooo lucky to have those. Are they F0, F1s etc? Definately in the top 10 of fish that I want! I do hope that you breed those endangered beauties.

I am planning on breeding them in the future, at the moment i'm setting them up in a madagascan biotype tank with my polleni pair, their fry are getting quite big now so i might be able to swap them for other madagascans, not sure what other occupants i,ll be able to source as there are not many about in uk, Madagascan plants are limited too.

I've been working with Paretroplus menerambo for a few years, they've spawned a number of times but never produced fry, more than half have been infertile. I've found thru trial and error, they need very warm temps(upper 80s), and need to be in a group a long time. The pair will separate from the rest, but (at least in my 150 gal, if te others are removed the pair will turn on each other. I upset the group dynamic and they started to kill each each other at about 12".
White eggs are infertile, viable are pink to red.

I'm beginning to think the 150 is just too small, even with another 100 gallons of sump.

Duanes beautiful menerambo's you have there, hope you have success with future spawns. Thanks for info
