peacock cichlid mating dance and spin but no eggs or holding?

watch them for an hour this morning...every 10-15 min he would dance and shake and zig and zag his body... when they finally went into the clay pot...i count their turns.. they turned over 20 twenty times...i thought they finally bred..but nope...i forgot to tell you

the male is 5 inches full colored (sunny)

the female is 4 inches (queen Supreme)

2nd 3 1/2 (sweetie pie)

the 2nd female i have seen him practice with as well.. only once though..

they should do it soon.. will keep you posted
 
The only thing I could actually think of is he thinks that they are pregnant or have eggs in them and is trying to mate when the females dont have eggs so they can't lay them then brood them. Other than that its just a bunch of practice lol... Maybe practicing for 2 at once? That would be a good day filled with eggs lololololol
 
big update...

watch them this morning for about an hour...

the smaller female is breeding condish i call her sweetpie had her egg tube extended... and very visible...

he was getting serious with her and she and him were doing the same thing as the dom female peacock..

but i saw them spinning in the open in front of everything... i believe it will happen this weekend and will post pics if they do..

CONGRATS!!! Those should be some cool fry. keep me updated on it post pics in like 3 weeks and show those beautiful fry :D
 
Runko buddy.... Put the knife away now... I know it is tempting, but it may populate again in a few weeks if not... dig out the clever and make some sushi :D................................. But in all seriousness I am really sorry to hear about that :( wild caught babies would of been sooo cool :( sorry buddy
