Kolt...just found this thread. Very impressive photography. A few in particular...but overall, excellent work. If you are interested in some input about some tweaks post edit, give me a shout.

Mo
Thanks Mo, I really appreciate the compliments and I'll definitely be giving you a shout for some info. on the post edit tweaks.

I also want to take the time to thank Laurie/LS2012 again for being so generous and parting with some of her Tarantsy juvies so that I can add them to my already existing trio. As well as share some pics of the future stunners.

Is that Korean Perch still with you? I'm curious how you're keeping him. I've always read cooler temps but want to work one into a tropical community.

Although would probably think they are dead at first glance,I love that shot of the catfish lying together.

Hi Laurie,

It was our pleasure meeting you and your family as well as taking in your awesome collection of art and fish. :D It was also my pleasure to supply the pics and I will make sure to update as they grow. Madagascar and Riverine cichlids are quickly becoming one of my all time faves and I'll try to do my part in promoting these interesting and beautiful, rare cichlids.

Yep The Menarambo where the welcoming committee I couldn't keep them away, tried shooing them to no avail; they insist on being front and center any time anything enters the tank and they grow bolder by the day. By the way I came home to 2 pleasant surprises, pot marks in the sand, looks like the Menarambo have finally started sand sifting and the Trio of Tarantsy are now accepting pellets and sifting as well. I'm really happy with how fast they're becoming comfortable in my set up.

Is that Korean Perch still with you? I'm curious how you're keeping him. I've always read cooler temps but want to work one into a tropical community.
I lost my Perch to over eating a cause of death for 5 perches with me thus far. I had some Chuatsi and after extremely large meals they went extremely pale and seemed to suffocate despite no blockage that I could see. The same was the case with the Scherzeri though I did have him for a year before his passing on.

As for your question I kept my tanks about 82 degrees F back then and he was fine, no signs of distress; though I did run at that time 3 very big powerheads on my tank. Also if I remember correctly one of the places Scherzeri are found in is the Yangtze river benthopelagic habitat where air temperatures can vary from 96 degrees in the summer to 10 in the winter, so my guess is they have a fairly good tolerance for varying water temperatures as long as they're properly adjusted.

Although would probably think they are dead at first glance,I love that shot of the catfish lying together.
I've seen Jekyll and Hyde get to that state on numerous occasions. Between their loud grunting and odd habits and night and day personalities they're really awesome fish, underrated if you ask me. Jekyll's a puppy dog and thus far has never eaten anything but pellets, Hyde on the other hand lives up to his name dispatching fish randomly. So far he's eaten 3 American Dats(in one sitting), 3 Red Spot Severums, 3 Dovii, Florida Gar and a Partridge in a pear tree. They're also the last fish I got from Rich/Infinite Aquatics.

that loud grunting was prob x-rated.. look closely and u'll see the male's thickened part of the anal fin (genital stuff) inserting into the female.. if u still have this pair, u could be the first (i think) to spawn these guys in captivity!

Lol! The grunting does occur at night..........Usually I write off the grunting as territorial disputes as they do share the same fake log, more of a stay on your side thing. I will say though I never even gave thought to breeding them, perhaps it's something I should look into; though it would've been better to try when I still had 4 of them. Guess I'll start doing a little research to see what I can find on Driftwood cat breeding. Thanks for the inspiration!
