Hi everyone.
I have lurked for some time and decided to join because my aquarium ventures have brought me back to Oscars.
I have a 55gal with a discus and some schooling fish - my friend has had an empty (one pleco) 45gal tank for almost two years, so I am going to give him my fish.

So, in an attempt to challenge myself I have been seeking odd color variations in Oscar fish.
Now, what may seem cool and odd or uncommon to me, may not be to others, so don't jump down my throat please. I am in Chicago, IL and I only see tigers, albinos, and reds.

So here is the list I came across:
Common/Wildtype - There Color's are the same patters as found on wild oscars. They have a green/black base color. with yellow/pale green stripes. They basically look like a tiger without the orange.
Albino - A true albino will be pure white with no other color.
Blueberry/Strawberry - These are albino/lutino oscars that have been dyed blue or red. Please do not buy dyed fish.
Veiltails/longfinned - They come in all the color's but have longer fins.
Sunshine - There Color's are like albinos, but have yellow markings instead of orange.
Golden - There Color's are like reds but have yellow markings instead of orange.
Black - There Color's are all black beside a oreange or red O on the base o the tail.
White/ Platum - There Color's are all White beside a oreange or red O on the base o the tail.
Pied aka Piebald - There Color's are patches of missing pigment,so they appear to have bright white spots of they look white with some normal colored patches.
Half Black - There Color's are like the wild's beside's the back half and its all Black with the Red/ Orande O on the tail
BloodyRed - All Dark Red and not dyed True Color
Gold Oscar - There Color's are dark Yellow/ Gold
Lemon - There Color's are a light yelow

Since I would only have one Oscar and a few dither fish in there, I want something really unique - but I am having a hard time finding pictures. I have seen the "golden" variation and possibly the BloodyRed, but nothing concrete, and not much at all.

If anyone could help me with pics and possibly places to buy, costs, etc I would appreciate it.
This could be a nice thread if we get a bunch of pics.

Welcome to the forum! I love seeing different colored oscars as well. Make sure you have really, really good filtration if you are going to do an O in a 55g. I'm no expert, but I've been getting some pretty cool looking baby oscars in at work...supposedly they are wild caught, but they are black with seriously bright gold stripes. Not sure what they would like grown out, but I like them a lot right now...I will see if I can get a picture tomorrow.

the albinos would still show red pigmentation

They were sold as Sunshine Os. Here's a pic when they arrived.
