Woops. When I wrote this I meant for a lima shovel nose.

Limas get about a foot. The 4 line pictus are a different species and do get pretty big I saw one a few months ago that had to be 16+. The 4 lines are also a bit more skittish

When anybody says a pictus cat, all think of Pimelodus pictus - a very, very commonly sold small Pim.

Sometimes, rarely, they can be referred to a spotted 4-line pim by store people, mostly novice assistants at the chains, which is very confusing and I strongly dislike it and there is no need whatsoever for this.

4-line pim is Pimelodus blochii, Pimelodus tetramerus, Pimelodis albicans, etc. These are larger fishes but I have never seen a blochii much over 1' total length.

There is also a Leairius pictus that grows to 3"+ in the wild. But that's considered a large Pim.

LSN is also a convoluted name. Both Sorubim elongatus (which I believe is almost the only type of standard Shovelnose sold in the US) maxes out at 1'. Sorubim lima does grow to 2' and the vast majority of photographic evidence of that comes from Europe IME. They are very hard to tell apart.

I am thoroughly confused. Gutted, what fish are you talking about in your original post and what fish is this thread about?

I know 4lines are a different species that's why I said it depends witch. 4 lines are commonly sold as pictus.

This thread is about pictus catfish. This is just a little sidebar.

Do you know of any other catfish that school/shoal besides cories?
Lima shovelnose school
What's their growth rate like cause they get pretty big?

Thanks for clarifying it.

Yeah, that's sad. Just adds to misinformation and confusion IMHO.
