I dont know if it is really cruel but isnt the same thing as the ear tags on our livestock? and the hook too? It look painless to me...at last its not dyed fish.

Seems silly to me.I suppose if you WANT people to point at you and laugh when they see your fish, its a great idea.

It is very odd indeed cruel, well as said if you prevent infection until it heals it isn't as bad as dyed fish. That said I'm agreeing with the natural beauty bit and keeping percing off of my fish

meh, i dont see why people get so worked up over this. i wouldnt do it to my fish, but it's not all that bad as you make it seem. you go fishing? thats even worse. you eat meat? you shouldnt even be talking.

fish are tagged for research all the time. sure, one's for research and one is for personal enjoyment, but what's the difference for the fish? do they know or care that one is to make them look cool and the other is to provide data to scientists? i'm sure not

The difference is that when you're done fishing you take the sharp metal out of the fish's flesh. You don't leave it in for decoration.

and what's the difference? the hole will heal when the hook is taken out, or it will heal around the piercing. IMO going fishing a yanking a fish out it's environment by a surprise baited hook is much more traumatizing.

and what about the guys that cut the line and leave the hook in the fish's mouth or deep down in its throat? is that so "humane"?

The difference is that healing from an open wound is natural and healing around a piece of metal embedded in you is not.

As for your other questions, I can't answer for fisherman that cut their lines or fish that swallow lures completely. This thread isn't about how humane or unhumane fishing is.

again, what is so natural about healing from a wound that was caused unnaturally?

i know what this thread is about and what it's not. and i'm merely point out how hypocritical all you people are. that is all
