I dont know if it is really cruel but isnt the same thing as the ear tags on our livestock? and the hook too? It look painless to me...at last its not dyed fish.
and what's the difference? the hole will heal when the hook is taken out, or it will heal around the piercing. As for your other questions, I can't answer for fisherman that cut their lines or fish that swallow lures completely. This thread isn't about how humane or unhumane fishing is.
