Warm water, lots of water changes, and time. :)
 
My pops had a couple in a 50gallon for like 5 years. They died at about 5 inches lol.

See ive heard mixed reviews about the kissers. Ive heard a few say they grow slow and others say they grow fast 2" in 2 months and I'm sittin over here 6 months later and not even a cm haha

I owned one for a year in college and it was 8-9" when I sold it. Just make sure you're feeding foods that it can eat with it's unusual mouth.
 
Although my dad didn't know much about water perams and all that but we had goldfish that lived in our outside pond summer then in there in the winter at about 6 inches lol no cycling or anything or conditioner... Yikes lol

Do a google search, there's some pics and vids out there of large ones.
 
Well I guess I am doing everything right with the maintenance and feeding. Just need to be patient. I can't wait to see mine 10" long :)
