I have a 75 gallon tank with a small oscar who's about 8 inches long, could I add three pink tailed chalceus or would that be overstocked?

I would add one. They are great solo but otherwise prefer larger groups of 6 or more which is far too many for your tank. Make sure you add a larger one or the oscar will outgrow it and feast!

More than one you’d need a bigger tank. They’ll chase each other and will eventually bang on the glass. Agree with Chefken Chefken .

I keep mine sola, cool looking fish that stays motionless on top. I picked up mine from a dozen in a lfs tank, all showed damage on their nose from jaw locking or banging on the glass. PTC are nasty fish towards their own kind, but peaceful to other fish. Like any tetra, they have visible sharp teeth In their mouth. There are 2 species of PTC under the same name, so find out what you have.

Welcome to mfk

Lol 3 ptc - your Oscar would love you for the snack. Unless they are much bigger than the o’s mouth. They like to eat anything that fits in their mouth and some things that don’t. Torpedo shaped fish are a huge gamble. I put my p-bass in with mine about a month or so too early and thought to myself, meh they are fast. Within a few hrs I regretted that logic.

It’s kind of a hot topic on here at times but some would say the Oscar alone is a bit much for a 75gal tank. They are extremely messy eaters as you would already know, and they produce a whack load of waste. Also oscars are very smart, temperamental fish that need stimulation which means they would need more room than your typical fish.

The good news is at that size it’s growth is slowing down a fair bit so you may have a bit of time before it gets cranky and hates you lol. Lots of wc and good filtration will keep it happier longer.

LOL one can interact with their Oscar I found. they are like a pet dog sorta. we had one at the aquarium store I worked at that would allow me to put my hands in the tank, slowly grab him and lift him up outta the water. he would go nutso if he seen you walkin up to his tank with the small pail of feeders we had. lol he was the coolest fish. he was never for sale, he was kinda the stor pet mascot

Thanks for all the info! I'm going to add one chalceus, the ones at my local store are about six inches so I'm not worried about my oscar trying to eat them.
