Most definately, I am 100% sure of it because I have many of those exact same fish swimming around in my 'mancave' right now. They are a Texas X Midas or Amph complex type of hybrid. I have an unplanned marriage of sorts myself, with a large and powerful male Texas Chiclid, and a riley and brash female amphilophus complex (I think she is a midas, trimac mix and she has the tenacity and grit to prove it). Anyhow, that guy you've got there looks identical to the juvies I have over hear. I have so far only given them away to friends and family, as well as donated a dozen to a LFS ( I just can't bear to kill them, and besides my wife would freak and call me a murderous SOB). My best assumption is that these are all part of the Flowerhorn industry breeding craze and these fish we are getiing are just rejects from the early stages of hybridizing. Good or bad? I'd say mostly a bad thing.
Even though these fish are tough as nails and super strong and healthy and even nice to look at, as well sociable as any oscar wet pet, I still in my heart of hearts belive we should not be interfering with nature. Although biolocically speaking aren't we just affecting evolution in our own special little volcanic eruption, crater lake, iceage melting, supercane sortof only a human could possibly have such an ego sort of way? hmmmmmmm..................................Anyhow, the following pics are of mom and dad, I only have one pic of the offspring for now and it's not a very good one. I will post more when I can get some shot.
