Of course, 8mm tempered glass is much stronger than 8mm plate. I would not be surprised if 8mm tempered glass would work where 12mm plate would be advisable, although I don't have an example to show it.

However, 36" deep is much more demanding 24" deep. The pressure is twice as high at 36", then 24", so by going to 10mm (36") versus 8mm (24"), you are getting closer to a point where it might not work. (Plate needs 12mm at 24", which is 50% more than your first option of 8mm, but plate needs 22mm at 36", which is 120% more than your second option of 10mm.)

Either one might work fine. I wouldn't be surprised if they did. But if I had to guess, I'd say the 8mm would be a much safer guess. I'd probably look around to make sure I had someone who had tried and found it to work before I went bigger.

This is the problem am having not many people use tempered glass because it's more expensive and it's the complete opposite for me it's cheaper for me to use tempered glass than regular glass now the question how is it cheaper for over a month now I have been looking for cheap glass but it was always over £100 until I came across glass shower panels all metal comes off and you're left with a sheet of glass which I thought was a great idea i'll try to post a link

No tempered glass will scatter into a million pieces if it breaks... there will be no time to save the fish if the tank breaks. With normal glass, it will start to crack and buy you some time to move the fish out and start draining the tank.

I appreciate your concern but it's a chance I'm going to take

Okay I've decided to go with 8mm and I've also changed the time dimensions it's going to be 200cm Long 80cm high 55cm deep and in millimetres it's 2000x800x550
