Marvin - I'm someone who appreciates fish for what they are, not their rareness, but I think barcas look incredible. Hands down the best looking channa.
great looking auranti marvin!! the color's very intense.

i too agree with rumble that i appreciate a fish for what it is. i find the barca to be the prettiest, with its high dorsal fin (at least 'high' to my untrained eyes), the pattern on the body and the subtle bluish/greenish color.

for me the coolest looking sh is marulioides (or whatever its current name is if theres been a name change). they just look evil lol

I do protest that if they weren't so rare people would consider them equal at least. Undoubtably barcas look fantastic but I'm not convinced we don't overhype them just becase they're so rare. And certainly in terms of value for money plus the fact my auranti lives quite peacefully with a variety of tankmates from cichlids to bichirs to a mbu I reckon that makes him pound for pound the best channa.
Hey Marvin, I like your outlook and attitude that you display on this topic... "I can feel your energy!" ;) It's good to see you make a stand in what you beleive in. I agree in what you said about the "rarity" hypeness on c. barca (about 95%)... and I guess it's a normal human being trait for us people in society to do... when in making judgement calls... and that is okay. I guess that is what makes the other 5% of me feel that is what makes channa barca, one of the top best head honchos of Channa. although, I do love and prefer the beautiful vibrant colors of c. aurantimaculata more over the 'rarity' issue... but that's just my opinion.

When this subject comes up, I really don't like to compare (let's say the top 3 sp.) to one another and say "this certain sp. is the best?"... because each of them have their own particular specific beauty and traits that make them the best "in their own right". :)

Anyways, my personal favorite 'best' species are: C. pleurophthalma, C. aurantimaculata, and C. barca. Now, if you asked which is my overall favorite best 'fish' species... that would have to be C____ (you know the rest?!!)

Hey Rumble, my thumbs up and respect goes to you and your reply/post as well!

O and on the small cheap ones Channa gachua every one has this thing they are big nasty fish but the dwarf ones are really quite stunning I know barca is up there with the wish list if a lot of people but you must admit even without the price tag it would still (In my eyes) be one of the most stunning snakeheads out there. But if we all liked the same we could all be on guppy owners. COM:D

wow, what a great fish.. my favorite snakehead as well

hope i'll get my hands one soon, someone bring some here in the philippines :(

Wow, found these pics in a couple of old threads awhileback. Two of my three favorite species... both in the same tank! :WHOA:
Also heard was speculation a 3rd speciman was going to be possibly added to this person's tank, but don't know for sure, hobbyist is most likely from overseas??... just thought i'd share these pics to the people who hasen't already seen them. :)
