I haven't fished for a long time, and I've never caught anything really huge. But once when I was, eh, 14 or so, I caught a 10-pound cat. And a few yeard before that, I caught a good-sized peacock bass... I'd say about the same weight.

As for saltwater catches.. heh, this isn't really a catch, so to speak, because it broke my line. Whatever it was, it snapped the line as soon as I picked up my pole to start reeling. It must have really liked squid.

My Biggest catch "for the species" was a 21.25" 7 pound smallmouth bass in northern wisconsin. I was 10 so i put a call into my ma to see if she has a pic in one of her vacation boxes. But the story of catching was more fun than the amazement of the fish.

Story: I was out fishing with my Dad and my Uncle (my dad's younger brother) and I loved fishing with them they are histaricle to fish with and for the area we were in they are darn near as good as guides. So anyway there we are in the 14' lund that my dad and uncle co-owned tied to an upturned tree root bobbin our bait (fresh nightcrawlers). My Dad and uncle told me we were looking for crappy and perch today and that becareful not to rip there lips off because they are more tentative than the bass we catch. So they are joking and laughing and i get my hit the bobber went down like a rock, needless to say as a 10 yr old I tried to ripp the lips of the fish and it was a good thing cuz when i did the line went nowhere but down my pole was darn near bent in half. So as a proper 10 year old I start telling my dad I need a net but my uncle and dad thought no i just snagged really good cuz at this time the pole was bent the bobber could be seen about 5 feet beneath the water and it stopped going due to the tension on the rod. I'm yelling now get the net get the net and their yelling push your bale push your bale after a few back and forths cuz i knew i had the fish even with their doubts the bass decided to make like an ICBM and surface all of a sudden the both fall in there chair as i still yell for the net. They finally start looking for the net since this was the biggest bass my entire family has ever seen up there to date. They both get to our small 10" panfish net at the same time and start fighting over who gets to net it. During the battle of the net going on behind me the manage to nearly knock me out of the boat since I had both hands on the pole fighting the bass on my light rod trying to keep it out of the roots I still thank the ore locks for catching the strap on my life vest for without the snag I would have been in the water. Finally my uncle falls down ontop of the gas can and my dad takes a whack at trying to net the fish. Well between the small net large and strong fish he failed 3 times almost falling into the water on the third try. Now the bass worked me to the back of the boat and my uncle tried he failed once falling backwards while trying. Finally the bass was exhausted and with my dad and uncle more exhausted i was able to reach down and lift her into the boat. It was a great catch the best part is I never let my Dad or Uncle live it down that I a mere 10 yr old caught the biggest smallmouth bass in the family and virtually completely on my own and even with there speed bumps. Even 19 years later I still out fish them and drives them crazy but I remind them they taught me initially. One of those it would have been great if we were on candid camera because telling the story obiviously isn't as good as seeing it yourself.
