I am currently trying to figure out what brackish fish will be best at eating my baby mollies. i have given a lot of baby mollies away and as you know with mollies they just keep coming. so i was hoping to find a predator that will hunt them down. i was thinking of the butis butis, but i have some reservation due to the possibility that he may eat my fiddler crabs. i was also thinking of a knight goby, but i'm not sure if they will actively hunt/look for baby fish. will either of these fish chase down baby mollies or just take advantage of a moment when one happens to swim past them? any other ideas of fish that i could add that are compatibly with the following that will eat my baby mollies monthly?

Archer fish
mollies
dragon goby
fiddler crabs

thanks for the help and advice.

Resurfacing a dead thread here... Did you get anything? You can try a Neovespicula depressifrons. Get roughly 4", I believe. Looks like a bullrout. It is an Indo-Pacific waspfish. You could try orange cromides, but be careful if your mollies are orange also, as this could lead to species confusion and fighting. Also, it depends on your SG and tank size. What are they?

i am currently looking for the waspfish but have had no luck finding one. i ended up getting 3 knight gobies and they are doing a great job at keeping the population under control. part of me still wants a butis butis but my guess is that he will eat my knight gobies since he gets bigger. as of right now my SG is 1.012 and i currently have the fish in my 80gallon aquarium. i am also in the processes of getting my 180gallon aquarium up and running again. once it is ready i will move all the fish other to the 180g.

Keep an eye on your knight gobies. Some literature says they thrive at SG1.002-1.008. Above that, idk.

Research monos too. You might find they will clean up fry and are big enough for that Butis butis. Though most monos tend to be catadromous.

i plan on dropping my sg slowly down 1.008 or 1.010. so far they are doing great, and they are fun to watch as they stalk through my rocks. and thank you for the suggestions.

Post some pics of your tank. I definitely would like to see the knight gobies. I was just reading something about the knight gobies doing fine in near 35% salinity. Pretty cool. I've never kept them.
