predatory fish fort a 50 gallon

Get a large population of guppies first, get hornwort for the guppies to hide in, let algae grow, get a pair of dwarf pikes, and now you got a self sustaining population of fish. The guppies will become food for the pike, and the pikes fry may become food for larger guppies.

The dwarf pikes will wipe the guppies out in a matter of a month. I tried this once with a 125, I got 300 guppies and a bunch of java moss, hornwort, java ferns, anubias, etc. I got a red atabapo pike, in one week he ate every single guppy and snail i had in the tank. The fry might be ignored for a little bit, but once they reach an inch long or so, they'll be food. I think the guppies would be eaten before they could really reproduce in any good number

The term predatory is a bit nebulous. Guppies are predatory, but they prey on small stuff like mosquito larvae.
Neons are predatory, as a most small tetras. I have some tetras that are scale eaters, they use their vampire like teeth to rip scales off larger fish in a quick dash attack. They are about 4"., and not any less predatory than a piranha.

As suggested above, Dwarf Pikes are a more obvious member of the cichlid predators, and so are pike live bearers
And..... they are small enough to fit in 50 gal, where as most larger fish considered predatory, are a bit overkill for a 50 gal

Any fish that has a size advantage over another fish will eat it. Doesn't mean it's a predatory fish per say. My BP ate 3 guppies, but in a tank of fish the same size as the BP its docile.

A strict fish only diet won't supply all of the nutrients needed and unless you are breeding feeder fish you will risk diseases from store bought feeders.

True on the disease. But you can and should gut load any and all feeders to make them a complete meal. There are plenty of piscivores in the fish world and they survive just fine.

I'd suggest a rainbow wolf fish (erythrinus erythrinus). Add tank mates with caution.
