I've read that people feed their plecos sweet potatoes; how is this prepared? baked, microwaved, or just soaked until it becomes soft?
Just trying to mix up some things every now and then...

Does it cloud/dirty the water like pumpkin does? Do most people just leave it in there for a night or so? I use cucumber as well, but after a day or so the seeds and the meat cloud the water..

I find melons to cloudy water over night.. cucumbers.. take longer.. i've had cucumbers in my tank for 3 days.. didnt cloudy the water...

I've also tried potato and that too doesnt cloudy the water.. i would imagine it'll be about the same.. sweet potatoes.. although i have yet to personally try it myself...

Sweet potatoes are almost as hard as driftwood and will not cloud the water for a couple of days, however I have offered my plecos sweet potato a few times and no interest. Zucchini is a totally different story, they just love it and I never let them stay in water for more than 24 hours.

Well, 4 of my tanks have larger plecos in them. I sliced the sweet potato like a coin and 2 of the 4 tanks took to them right away. You can see little "chew" marks where they've eaten. I'm just trying to diversify their diet. Thanks for the help.

wash it off and place in tank..........my royals go right through the skin and devour a potatoe a night....nice orange piles are easy to find in the morning..lol
