do you guys not fish???????????????????????
ive lost treble hooks "triple hooks"in fishes lips,
ive taken them out of tongues,
ive ripped them out setting the hook,
whats the difference???????????????????????
The difference is that one is a fish you're harvesting for food or sport. The other is a pet that you have taken into your care, When I fish I make sure I do it in the quickest, least damaging way possable. I hate letting fish go with hooks or lures in them. I cannot imagine attaching something like that on a fish on purpose and leaving it there on purpose, especially if that fish is a pet. He put his fish at risk when he did it and though they appear alright now we have no idea what the long term effects on these fish are. This is no in my definition a responsable fishkeeper.

I think I speak for most of us when I say I like fish the way nature (or selective breeding) made them. I don't feel the need to artificially enhance a fish just to make it look cool. I'm not in the hobby to "pimp my fish".

You cannot compair a scientific study to what has been done here. The examples you describe are done for scientific reasons in order to learn about and conserve the fish, not mearly for fun or for them to look cool.

No, I won't look outside the box on an issue like this. This is about the welfare of an animal, not "enjoying new things".

i agree with most people on here that it looks terrible, the whole thing makes me wonder what people are thinking when they do things like this or why they would comtemplate doing things like this.
stuff like this is the sort of thing that adds fuel to the fire for people like PETA and other orginisations of this type.
why give them the ammunition against us the fishkeeper.
personally i think its quite sad and a little bit pathetic.

I don't understand why anyone who doesn't like this form of mutilation is even bothering to post in this thread. All you're accomplishing is keeping the thread at the forefront. There are plenty of other threads to join in on. If you're not into this type of adornment, just move on. Any argument will have the same results as those who argue tail-bobbing, ear-pinning, declawing, debarking, pinioning, etc. In some circles, these various practices are accepted and in others they're not. Might as well argue local customs differences from around the globe.

You don't understand why we would want to post in this thread? Well, I think I can speak for others when I say I posted here because I wanted to express my opininon on the subject and perhaps make the OP and those who agree with him see the otherside of the arguement and change their minds on it. Dosen't seem like a big deal to me if it's done in a civil manner.
