Pure Tea Tree Oil usage

Hi ,

Anybody here using Tea tree oil instead of melafix?
I biught 2 15 ML bottles, I've read usage of pure tea tree oil and it says the oil can be used directly into the tank at dose of 1 drop per gallon?
before i usually mix 5 ML into about 500 Ml water and use as same dosage with melafix,
but read it can be used at the dose of a drop per gallon, anybody else done this?

I'm not very good at math so I could be wrong with my calculations.

5mL of tea tree oil mixed with 500mL of water means every 1mL of the mixture contains .01mL tea tree oil. (1% ratio)

.5mL of the mixture treats 1gal (since 5mL treats 10 gal if you're following Melafix dosage).

So for every gallon of water in your aquarium you are adding .005mL of pure tea tree oil. (.01mL/2)

The official size of a drop is .05mL

So for it to be the same dosage you would add a drop of pure tea tree oil per 10gal.(.005mL x 10 = .05mL)

That doesn't seem like very much though, so I might of made a mistake.

I dosed my tank with 70 frops for 350 gallon, so far my fish does not seem to be affected, will check tommorow if their torn fins have healed a little

Yes, because Melafix(and your mixture) is about 99% water and 1% tea tree oil. So one dosage(5mL) only actually contains about 0.05mL(a drop) of tea tree oil and the rest is water. I dont think it would hurt using more, I've heard of people using a drop per gallon, but I haven't done it personally.
