IN A PLACE
I just bought some pots from home depot. They are tera cotta on the inside with a blue and gray glaze on the outside. does anyone know if this can be potentially dangerous to put in my tank? I'm thinking possible lead-based glaze could be toxic and have contacted the mfg. Other than that, seeing how it was fired in a kiln, it's not going to leach anything.

thoughtS?

I'm not sure. I have some German made pots that are glazed and what I did was contact the manufacturer and asked them.

Wow, what a coincidence. I just finished a ceramics class. My professor explained that if the glaze is fired and its label says "food/dinnerware safe when properly fired at coneX" it can be used in my fish tank. You just have to make sure the glaze layer is thick enough that the water doesn't reach the clay underneath.

Haven't tried glazed yet but this is common advice in one goldfish forum long ago, to avoid glazed pots at all costs. I used ceramic pots and clay pots with no issues though.
