the Office living in the now...
Hello,

I googled these black bar characins and found many photos of 3"+ specimens.

My question is what color are they when they are under an inch?

Are they more silver and yellow? or maybe they just looked that way to me cause they were being treated with meds??

I have a chance to buy a nice shoal of these beautiful fish but they look different.

Sorry mine I got (2) last year they are about 6 inches. They are very difficult to find so I would definately pick up a few.;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; Very cool fish and will school with any of the other dollars without issues!

Woooooooooooooo whoooooooo.

I just picked up #21 all around an inch big.

These guys are very cute. I really want to fatten them up. Currently they're eating Cyclop-eeze for fast growth along with fd mysis shrimp, collard greens, pellets, well.... these guys seem to eat everything. Ever since the first day I introduced these guys to the grow out tank, they seem like a species that is not picky.

Here is a grow out vid. Sorry no music, no time but i wanted to share these lilttle guys with everyone. I have Never seen disk tetras so small so I snagged them all. They seem to have a golden metallic tint to them. My vendor told me it goes away when they reach 2-3 inches turning silver.

I have been doing some reading on Myleus Schomburgki and found two different types.

In Asia Wide bars with the Widest bars are known as EBH's (Emperor Blue Hooks) which have a shorter hook but grow the largest. These photo was taken from another online forum.

Then there are the thinner wide bars (oxymoron, shrugs) known as ERH's. These fish don't get as large but they seem to have longer Hooks.

and thanks.

yeah, i have heard 2 barred SDs for: the thin bar and the wide bar... wide bar is suppose to grow larger... both fish are not as easy to come by as the other SD.. i also have heard that wide bar grow bigger.. i didn't make any other research.. it looked like you have the wide bar.. there are videos on youtube you can search.. wide bar SD are great fish.. and you have alot of them.. DANG..!!! as far as colors... wait till they mature then you'll see their tru adult colors.. hehehe..
