In my experience the fish generally sold as Hemibagrus nemurus doesn’t grow above 10” but I personally believe (with no sound scientific evidence other than ownership of many hemibagrus and bagrus species) that there are a couple of similar albino species both sold as the same fish, and the less typical variety seen only occasionally reaches 18-24”.
Many of the hemibagrus and bagrus species look VERY similar when young.
Similarly, some of the sizes quoted for hemibagrus and bagrus species are still very much changing. For example, hemibagrus variegatus grows much larger than 5”. Mine is currently 18” although one reason that they may be thought to only grow smaller is that at around 9” they start to lose the lovely variegated colouring and by 12” are a standard drab grey colour.
For a non albino version of hemibagrus similar then go for filamentus which again IME doesn’t get above 10” although others may have a different experience. ( think koltsixx koltsixx may have owned this fish too)
I do Fishman Dave Fishman Dave indeed have a Filamentus, thanks for the mention. I'm always looking for a reason to run my mouth about my fish. ? I was honestly very jealous when I saw you had a variegatus but am saddened to hear they lose that awesome coloration. I had 2 Fila's originally but one quickly dispatched the other. The survivor was one of the last fish I bought from Jeff before TUIC changed hands so I named him Rapps. I personally like the body shape and appearance of most Bagridae so despite this guy being IME a meh brown I still like him. Mine is about 12 inches but I was in a bad place around the time I got him and have been so until recently, so I am unsure if I accidentally stunted him. Aggression IME has been minimal with any aggression being shown mostly to Family members or fish they believe to look I similar. I had Dumerili/Longirostris, Pratti and Ussuriensis and he did indeed target them as well as two unrelated TSN/Achara hybrids. Other than that despite being on pellets from day one he has shown a penchant for being on occasion without reason that I can see predatory toward some of his smaller tankmates. I personally haven't seen a Fila since, which is a pity as I'd like to get some more.

SourAngelfish SourAngelfish - fugupuff/Wes had some Ussuriensis last time I checked around 7-8" as well as some Cranoglanis multiradiata around 8" both having natural distributions that include China. Both IME not overly outgoing but I wouldn't call them secretive either. They both also have a good aggressive feeding response where they have no issue feeding with lights on, the Ussuriensis even going as far as surface feeding and they both take to pellets readily. If Planetcatfish is correct the Cranoglanis should remain the more manageable sized of the two. The Ussuriensis IME can put on size as jueveniles fairly quickly. The Ussuriensis ignores everything but my TSN/Achara hybrids however the Ussuriensis actively seeks food so aggressively they do spook some of my fish such as my Cuban Gars. Cranoglanis is mildly territorial, he's got a piece of driftwood that he can see everything from and he chases anyone except my Kamfa away from. Great eater, goes head to head with my Trachycorystes which are real beasts during feedings as well my Lithodoras and Dorbignyi which are no slouches when eating either. Feeding time is a chorus of grunts and dull thuds as the Trachys headbutt each other and the Cranoglanis. Everythng else just gets plowed out of their way.

The only things is you mentioned a C. lopis which I'm guessing is Chitala lopis. IME Knives tend to be a little reserved and it might be a pain to make sure he gets ample food with some of my cat suggestions. They may also torment the knife with their night time escapades. Best knife I had for aggressive eating catfish comm's was my Papyrocranus afer. I'm actually facing a feed issue like that with my Cuban Gars many of the fish out compete them, making target feeding them necessary for me. While I have found(and thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter might find this humorous) I shriek quite a bit because the Gars are starting to hunt their too big to eat tankmates. I have turned from my computer desk to view the tank only to see one of the Gars holding one of their tankmates by the caudal fin dragging them to the surface. As I said I shriek my fiance says "what's wrong" in a panic as I jump up to spook the Gar to which she laughs at me after finding out why I shrieked.
