im here, with a sad face. i just pulled my dead rescued oscar out of my indoor pond, i think my midas got pissed about something and killed it. it was doing really well and seemed healthy. found it floating with no eyes, and looked like it got its side torn up pretty bad.

I was in Canada drinking absinthe.. Found the sweetest fish store there ever, it was like a freaking warehouse. Like 70% of it was used and kind of expensive but everything in Canada was. Their fish room was closed for renovation though and it looked like they easily had over 100 tanks :( I asked the owned and he said they didn't have a lot of ca/sa cichlids anyways but it still would have been fun to check out something different. Went into a petsmart too and they had a different selection than whats available to me locally but clown loaches where $18.99 for 2"s. How'd you like to spend close to $100 a shoal on loaches? Not to mention their taxes that rounded out to around 17%. They had "skinny pigs" too which was like the craziest thing I've ever seen. I have a ton of animals and know a little bit of everything about most animals but have never heard of these.

am I the only one who absolutley has to stop in every pet store they see that they've never been too?

cam not only do i have to stop at all the pet stores i have never been to i have to frequent the local ones too. im in the process of trying to get my sister a job at my local family owned pet store, where they all know me by name and i have even on multiple occasions helped other customers when i was there and they were busy. sometimes i have to earn the discount that i get. but the employee 25% discount would be nice to have available at all times. i usually only get 10-15% myself. that funny lookin hamster thing is nuts by the way.

same thing here with the local pet stores. I don't take their discounts, but I will take first dibs on stuff they want to closeout/clearance. The owner has refered customers in the store to me several times when people want to know about fish. The only thing I take advantage of is ordering from his fish suppliers at his cost. Thinking back I don't think I've ever bought anything from him at cost accept for maybe some pimafix and melafix.

and yeah, I have 3 guinea pigs but these things looked like long nosed hairless guinea pigs. Really weird, don't understand why I haven't seen them in the U.S.

finally pics of my barred midas, (had to switch him to the 90 and the pair of 12" oscars to the pond) he killed my albino Oscar that was in the pond with him.

the water's not green just dont have a light above the tank yet so all it has is room lighting at the moment.

I notice several of you RD'ers have groups of RD/Midas. How is that going for you? Any tips or tricks or combinations that work more often than not?

Also, how are we avoiding attacks on our hands when cleaning the tanks? Aqua-gloves, dividers...? My dominant male is turning into a rotten little SOB pretty quickly.

My vote for best in show in the mixed category so far is Cam's glass-banger, love those blue accents and the pink angry face.
