The two of them have been hanging out together for the past few days in my wimpy fish tank. No serious plan to breed anything but sure hope they'd have some fun :naughty:. The problem is I can't tell if they are actually a pair - can't sex them by facial worming and I don't know how easy it is to net them out of the tank and vent them.

anyway, here are some pictures........

if they did breed that would be a miracle. I heard reds are usually if not all infertile

It's hard to say for sure without vent shots, but I would be pretty certain the one on the right in the first picture is male and the one on the left is the female. I say this because the females that I've seen (known females by venting) are all smaller, maxing out at around 6-7 inches and the males are larger with just slightly long tips on there fins. Reds are not all infertile and I'm not sure that any of them are infertile. They are for sure notoriuosly bad parents that are hard to get to pair up and even harder to breed even if they pair.

Maybe you can lay all the infertile talk to rest peathenster by producing a large group of fry!!!!! :)

Great tank .

My two Reds do things like that all the time but nothing else , nothing happens , they even do it with my 3inch Gold and thier are both about 5/ 6inch head - tail .

thanks for sharing the pics! Your fish look great! I have four in my tank right now. Please do continue to document your pair if they do breed!

Both males.

There are NO super red females, only gold ;) No female sevs EVER have worm markings. Its like baboons females have plain rumps, male peacocks have big feathers...

If you want a breeding pair, then go grab a nice gold female. simple as that.

Local Sev head ;)

Beautiful sev's you have there. And craggy couldnt be more right he told me the exact same thing , with my red sev. And was right i have a male red spot and a gold female who get along terrific that im hoping will form a pair.
