Red Tiger Motaguense Cichlid

The red so many people like are the rio blanco motas. My male reminds me of my male jags except more aggro

Here is more info/experience/pics...there is a guy who posts on YouTube..who goes by...spacejamspr who has some very nice RTM...has male 13inch...breeds and has offspring that must be seen by any mota keeper...mine are in a 6 ft 150gal..it has been the most suitable home...I had them in a 75 with a divider...(which like with fernie a divider is necessary )and the male still nearly killed the female and left her with permanent damage to her midsection...in the 150 with hiding area that only the female can get into(male about10 inch, female maybe 6inch)..she is able to keep the male in check...personality wise the male is very outgoing and will hand feed uncooked shrimp that I give him.. the female perhaps from being moved around more by me is more cautious.. .mine not glass bangers and will also move away if I put hands in the tank...mine have only spawned once thus far...I feed them massivore ,carnisticks and occasional the shrimp and cut tilapia...

spacejams magnificent male motaguense......

and for what its worth he looks to be in a 75 gallon ...at the end of the day the individual temperament of the fish will make the difference

You're welcome...you are doing the right thing in seeking info on an aggressive species before you get it....and this is sure a good one to do it for lol...

I got a pair in a 75 male is about 10in and female maybe 5in. the male grew up in a community for about a year grew to about 7in then started to really beat the other fish bad so moved him to the 75 and got him a female. They breed every 2-3weeks and he's not really too aggressive towards her only when he is ready to breed. I have a small section divided with holes for the female just incase he gets too rough. The females do get red some more than others just depends on the individual. I believe I got the gold variant female to me they look better but either variant are cool some of my favorite cichlids. Hope this helps and good luck

Where did you get the gold variant from?
