Hello,
I'm thinking of trying to add a red wolf fish that is 2 inches smaller than a red devil I have. (I can't give specifics as I don't know exactly when I will try the wolf and don't know how big the devil will be by then)
Anyway, I know it's risky, but what have your experiences been with red wolves and large cichlids?
Here's my plan. Tank is 75 gallons.
1.) Work out a deal with the LFS that if something goes wrong, they will for sure take back the wolf.

2.) If the LFS agrees to the above, I will make a large breeder net type thing.

3.) I will put the wolf in the breeder net to see how both fish react to each other. (For a few days, to make sure I should or shouldn't release the fish)

4.) If all goes well, release the wolf and monitor from there. How does my plan sound?

The tank is set up like this:

Two clay pots in the far right. (Red devil has claimed this territory)
There is one piece of wood in the center, and 3 medium sized rocks in a group at the far left. I'm planning on adding a PVC pipe in the far left behind the rocks to only give the wolf one hiding place option. (He'd be quickly driven away from the pots the red devil owns) This way I think they'd be kept away from each other.

So what do you think?
Thanks!

I could see it going either way... But IMO the wolf could chomp the RD at anytime... May I recommend 2 senegal bichirs if you want bottom action? I have a regular senegal and a albino they are GREAT!

my past red wolf was a wimp and would never have survived with a rd

yeah i'd be afraid of the rd beating and killing the wolf fish, but i guess you could add a ton of hiding spots for the wolf fish, whatever you decide on doing good luck

The wolf fish will hide all the time, a rd will hammer a wolf fish . Unless its a huge wolf and in that case expect to see a chunk missing from your Rd.

Wolves are not active, especially like a Cichlid type of active.

I think this would be a very bad combo.. The red wolf fish would be beaten up and be very uncomfortable with a red devil in a 75g tank. I have 8" Redwolves and I have had tried to add Both Salvini's and Oscars in a 120 and 150g and both picked on the wolffish
