Red (Xanthic) Dovii growth thread

Yes, looking good, quite the change over the past several weeks.

I have been feeding mostly freeze dried Krill. The smaller 2 will accept small pellets a little bit but but the big dominant one will not. Tried starving him into it and it didn’t work. He will eat only the freeze dried Krill and occasional frozen brine. @RD. do you think this is a sustainable diet? Thinking of starting to raise red wriggler worms too.

No, krill on its own is not an optimum diet. For now try pre-soaking the krill in Boyd Vitachem, then start trying different foods. Pellets pre-soaked in blood worm juice might get him started on pellets.

@RD. I have tried many different types and brands of pellets. He puts them in his mouth and spits them out. He will sometimes eat flakes but not every time. Loves Krill and frozen brine shrimp. And will eat frozen bloodworms too.

Have you tried pre-soaking pellets in the juice from frozen blood worms? I have trained numerous non pellet eating fish in this manner, including young fish from SE Asia that were raised exclusively on blood worms. It takes some patience, and time, but has worked every time.

Presoak your pellets of choice in the juice of frozen bloodworms. Only feed in AM when the fish is most hungry, and do not offer any other food. After a week or so of this your fish will slowly but surely start nibbling on the food. Once it is eating like gangbusters slowly wean off of the presoaked food, over several days, and convert to 100% pellet. If your fish likes the taste/smell of krill, use a krill based pellet, and you could also presoak the pellets with freeze dried krill mixed in with the blood worm juice.

Or you can ship him to me, and I will train him for free, and ship back to you at a (much) later date. :)
